2018 NTHU Winter Culture School

                                                                           Chinese Vision(中文版)

The 2018 National Tsing Hua University Winter Culture School (NTHU WCS), from January 14 to January 29, offers 5 courses in the fields of Taiwan’s Foreign Relations, Modern Taiwan History, Literature of Taiwan, Art & Design and Basic Chinese courses. In addition, a two-day trip will be arranged to introduce you to various aspects of Taiwan’s rich culture. We hope you will join us this winter to make friends from all over the world and to experience Taiwan culture and society, while enhancing your knowledge in humanities, art and language. 

We had rich experiences in shch short-term programs. Visiting foreign students have an assigned Taiwanese buddy to help and accompany. Come to NTHU and enjoy culture-enriched experience including hand-crafting glassware and playing diabolo (Chinese Yo Yo).

Location
Its campus, located near Sceintific Park at Hsinchu city, is one hour bus ride from Taipei (the Taipei-bound buses are right outside the NTHU main gate, frequent (every 10-15 min) and almost around the clock) and 40 min ride from the international airport ; There are the hot springs around the Hsinchu area, so you can enjoy the pleasant climate (the average temperature in January here is 16°C) to have a quality stay in one of the most beautiful campuses with mountains and lakes in Taiwan for a winter.  

History
National Tsing Hua University has a long and proud history. First established as the Tsing Hua Academy at Tsing Hua Garden, Beijing in 1911, the first modern university in modern Chinese history, the Academy was renamed as National Tsing Hua University in 1928 as its curricula expanded to that of a full-fledged university. After WWII, in 1956, National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) was reinstalled on its current campus in Hsinchu, Taiwan.

Alumni
Such stellar records are particularly exemplified by the outstanding achievements of our alumni.
1.Two Nobel laureates in physics, Dr. Cheng-Ning Yang(楊振寧) and Tsung-Dao Lee(李政道).
2.One Nobel laureate in chemistry, Dr. Yuan-Tseh Lee(李遠哲). 
3.One Wolf Prize winner in mathematics Dr. Shiing-Shen Chern(陳省身).

Famous People
1.Academician of Academia Sinica, Huang Yi-Long(黃一農) who is the world-renown scholar of Dream of the Red Chamber.
2.Renowned visiting poet Zheng Chou-yu(鄭愁予).
3.The ex- director of AIT and the director of center for Asia policy, NTHU, Dr. William A Stanton(司徒文).
4.A well-known painter, an ardent art educator as well as the father of Dr. Yuan-Tseh Lee, Tze-Fan Lee(李澤藩).
5.An ethnomusicologist, music educator YANG Zhao-Zhen(楊兆禎) who received the award for Outstanding Contribution to Hakka Culture.

All professors provide 10-to-12-hr courses and you will get the certificate once passing them successfully.

Accommodation:

The hotel is three minutes away from NTHU by walk. (main room type: 2 or 3 people/room)

(1)1600 USD* Including 2 courses, housing fee, two free cultural experience courses, two parties and a 2-day culture trip.
(2) Discounted price of 1500 USD for students from our sister universities.
(3)We refund 130 USD if you take only one course and charge additional 105 USD if you take three courses.

Group discount-2 persons and above : 50 USD/person
*With a constantly small fluctuation, the currency exchange rate (USD:TWD) is usually around 1:30

National Tsing Hua University Winter Culture School (WCS) reserves the right to admit or decline students.
Students holding a People's Republic of China passport must apply for a Taiwan Entrance Permit by The National Immigration Agency, Taiwan, ROC. There is no guarantee that the permit will be issued.

Please be sure to purchase and obtain a medical and accident insurance before your arrival. During your stay in Taiwan, the insurance should cover medical and hospital expenses for sickness or accidents. Medical or hospital expenses are expected to be paid at the time of treatment in Taiwan.

After receiving the first confirmation e-mail, please make a remittance to NTHU's bank account within 10 days. You must transfer the required payment in full, with the remittance fee excluded.
